GIVE BACK EVENTS
The “Give Back to the Community Events Program,” launched in May 2009, is a sub-committee/program to the USGBC-LA Events Committee which provides USGBC-LA membership and the overall building community with a variety of educational, social and networking events.
USGBC-LA Chapter “Give Back Events” were created to provide a vehicle for USGBC-LA to “give back” to the local community. Give Back events provide a much needed lending hand to other non-profit organizations, charities, cities, and communities in the LA county area. The main purpose for these events is not to generate revenue for the chapter but rather “good will” with the community by providing our services through our members. However, a by-product of these events may be new membership generation (memberships for the USGBC-LA Chapter), donations for the chapter, and/or donations for the charity/organization that we are providing service to.
Events to date have included tree care with the Tree Musketeers organization in El Segundo, beach cleanup with Heal the Bay in Hermosa Beach, habitat restoration with the Friends of Ballona Wetlands – Playa del Rey, and river cleanup with the Friends of the LA River. Future events include tree planting with the Million Trees LA program, school gardening with the Garden School Foundation, and many more to come!
